RPS 205 recognized outstanding staff, students, and coaches during its March Board of Education meeting, celebrating achievements across academics, athletics, and fine arts.

The evening began with academic honors. Last month, Virtual Enterprise students traveled to a Midwest regional conference that brought together top schools from across multiple states. During the competition, students demonstrated their business skills through visual, written, and oral events. For the first time in district history, an RPS 205 student placed in the Top 10 in the Elevator Pitch competition. Jefferson High School student Zaire McNeely earned this distinction while representing his class company, SolarSky, delivering his pitch to two separate panels of judges.

Chess teams from Guilford and Auburn High School were recognized for competing at the state level. Guilford entered the tournament seeded 18th and earned three team wins, with standout individual performances including a medal-winning finish. Auburn also qualified a full team for state competition.

In wrestling, East High School celebrated four state qualifiers under the leadership of Coach Gene Lee.

The Board also recognized student artists across the district who earned honors in the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Students from Jefferson, Auburn, and West Middle School received Gold Keys, Silver Keys, and Honorable Mentions at the regional level. Gold Key recipients advanced to national judging in New York City. Notably, West Middle School students competed against high school students and still earned top honors.

Educators were also celebrated for their excellence. Chelsea Spinello-Johnson of Marshall Middle School and Bryce Thomas of Guilford High School were named Golden Apple Award finalists. Both will be honored at the upcoming Golden Apple Awards Banquet.
