Meet the Principal

Headshot of Guilford Principal Gus Carter

Hello Guilford Viking Families. Welcome aboard the ship!

We are grateful to have you as committed partners in the education and care of your Guilford Vikings. At Guilford High School we are proud of the hardworking and dedicated staff who are working to meet the academic needs of your student, so that they can thrive in their post-secondary plans. It is our goal that your student becomes an engaged learner and a conscientious community member. We hope that your student and your family has a positive experience during your time at Guilford.

This is my fifth year at Guilford High School as the executive principal. Before that, I spent three years as an assistant principal for curriculum and instruction and an academy principal for both the CAPA and Gifted Academies at Auburn High School.

I studied history in college with the intention of pursuing a career in law. I would never have been considered a great student myself and ultimately had to come to a hard realization that I am the steward of my own learning. Through my own journey in education, I developed a passion to assist others in navigating their own personal educational journey. That passion has led me to my work in RPS 205 as an educator. I am excited to work with our Vikings and help shepherd their own unique learning experience and realize their own educational potential.

I have lived in Rockford for a majority of my life outside of a few stints in Utah, Indiana and Chicago. I am a graduate of Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, Rockford University and Northern Illinois University. I have a wife, Krystle, and two young children at home, Lily and Gus, so my free time is limited. When I am not with my high school students I am extremely active with my family. We enjoy wake surfing and watersports, mountain biking, and we are active members in the CrossFit community.
