Student Achievement
There are six ways to qualify for Carpe
Diem each quarter:
* attendance
* elimination of D's and F's
* raise grade point average by .5%
* make honor roll
* straight A's
* teacher nomination
Qualification for Carpe Diem is
based on the quarter prior. Those entering
as freshmen or transferring must have come from
another District 205 school to qualify.
Give-aways (such as pop, candy, movie certificates, snacks,
and money!) are awarded during the lunch periods
several times each quarter.
Students many also exempt a semester final if they are on
Carpe Diem for two consecutive quarters and are
receiving an A (both quarters) in the class.
Freshmen and sophomores may exempt one final per
semester. Juniors and Seniors may exempt
two.

Teacher/Staff Recognition
The Carpe Diem committee provides a dinner at
one parent-teacher conference night each
semester, as well as an Administrative
Recognition Lunch. "Treats" are also
provided once per quarter. In addition,
prizes are solicited from area business and are
given away at faculty meetings once a month.
Annual Gift
Each year Carpe Diem provides a
"gift" to the school. The intention is
that the gift will, when possible, benefit
students and teachers alike.
Recent gifts have included the
addition of landscaping and benches outside the
West entrance, a mural painted in the P.E.
hallway, new main speakers for the auditorium
and a spineboard for the pool.
Renaissance
Carpe Diem is Guilford's "arm"
of the national Renaissance program. The back of
the Carpe Diem card lists area businesses that
offer discounts. |
Last year,
Renaissance began offering an academic
scholarship to a college-bound student

We receive some dollars from the GHS Booster
Club, but we are largely dependent on the
generosity of Guilford family and friends to
keep this valuable program running.
